  5. Thank you for purchasing the Fashion Magic(TM) 
  6. TankTop CD-ROM Kit.  We have included this ReadMe 
  7. file to let you know some of the things that
  8. did not make it into our pre-printed materials 
  9. or are important enough to mention again.  Please 
  10. read through the brief descriptions, then get started 
  11. finding out how to make your very own fashion 
  12. accessories.

  15. IF YOU ARE USING A PC:
  16. _______________
  17. INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE:
  18. You may encounter problems during installation if there
  19. are other applications running at the time you try to
  20. install the software.  If you do have a problem, exit the
  21. Fashion Magic(TM) TankTop CD-ROM Kit installation and 
  22. shut down other applications that are running.  Run the 
  23. installation again.
  24. _______________
  25. IF YOU DO NOT HEAR ANY SOUNDS OR THE 
  26. SOUNDS ARE CHOPPY ON YOUR SYSTEM:
  27. If you are not hearing any music or other sounds while
  28. running the program, first check to see that your speakers
  29. are turned on and the volume is turned up.  Then, check
  30. that the music is on by clicking on the Music Note at the
  31. top of the screen and select Tracks 1-5.  If you still 
  32. don't hear sounds or the music seems choppy on your 
  33. system, try changing your "Sound Out" settings
  34. within QuickTime(R) by following these steps:
  35. 1.  Click on the Start/Settings/Control Panel
  36. 2.  Double click on the QuickTime(R) icon
  37. 3.  Click on the pull down menu and select "Sound Out"
  38. 4.  From Choose a device for playback:, select "waveOut"
  39. 5.  Exit the QuickTime(R) settings
  40. _______________
  41. IF YOU EXPERIENCE OTHER SOUND PROBLEMS:
  42. If you still experience choppy sound on your system, 
  43. you can adjust the size of the sound buffer QuickTime(R) 
  44. uses. To adjust the size of the sound buffers:
  45. 1.  Click on the Start/Settings/Control Panel
  46. 2.  Double click on the QuickTime(R) icon
  47. 3.  Click on the pull down menu and select "Sound Out"
  48. 4.  Select the waveOut or DirectSound(R) device
  49. (depending on what is installed on your system)
  50. 5.  Click on the Options button at the bottom of the
  51. control panel.
  52. 6.  Try increasing the values (if set at 60, try 120 then
  53. 180, etc.)
  54. 7.  Keep adjusting the settings until the audio problem
  55. is corrected.

  57. RE-BOOTING YOUR SYSTEM:
  58. If you encounter problems when using this software, 
  59. it is best to re-boot the system to eliminate any 
  60. accumulated memory problems.

  62. SHUTTING DOWN THE SYSTEM WHILE RUNNING THE PROGRAM:
  63. If you shut down the system while running the program,
  64. the software will be terminated without saving your
  65. current designs.

  67. CHANGING THE MONITOR COLOR DEPTH:
  68. To improve the appearance of the software on your
  69. monitor, you should set the monitor depth to 16-bit
  70. or higher.  To do this, click on the START menu, 
  71. choose SETTINGS and select CONTROL PANEL.  Double
  72. click on DISPLAY.  Choose SETTINGS and change
  73. the COLOR PALETTE to HIGH COLOR (or TRUE COLOR).

  75. PROGRAM FREEZES OR LOCKS UP:
  76. Try adjusting your graphics acceleration:
  77. 1.  Right click on "My Computer" located on your
  78. desktop and select "Properties"
  79. 2.  Within the "System Properties" dialog box, select the
  80. "Performance" tab.
  81. 3.  Click on the "Graphics" button.
  82. 4.  Within the "Advanced Graphics Setting", adjust your
  83. graphics acceleration to the "basic" setting.
  84. 5.  Click on "OK" and restart your computer for the
  85. changes to take effect.

  87. LOST PRINTER COMMUNICATION
  88. If you get a dialog box saying that 2-way 
  89. communication with your printer has been lost 
  90. (most commonly seen on the HP(R) DeskJet(R) 600 
  91. series), try quitting the software, re-booting 
  92. your computer, re-starting the software, and 
  93. turning off the music in the program before trying 
  94. to print again. To turn off the music, click on 
  95. the Music Note at the top of the screen and 
  96. select None.

  98. AUTO PLAY FEATURE INTERRUPTS SOFTWARE WHILE 
  99. ALREADY PLAYING:
  100. Try disabling the Auto Play feature:
  101. 1.  Right click on "My Computer" located on your
  102. desktop and select "Properties".
  103. 2.  Within the "System Properties" dialog box, select the
  104. "Device Manager" tab.
  105. 3.  Click on the plus sign of your CD-ROM icon to
  106. display your type of CD-ROM drive.
  107. 4.  Click once on your type of CD-ROM drive.
  108. 5.  Click on "Properties".
  109. 6.  Click on the "Setting" tab.
  110. 7.  If "Auto insert notification" is checked, click to
  111. uncheck the Auto Play feature.
  112. 8.  Click OK to exit.

  114. THE MUSIC DOES NOT TURN OFF:
  115. On rare occasions, when you click "None" from the
  116. dialog box nothing happens and music continues playing.
  117. If you want to turn the music off, click to go to another 
  118. screen and turn the music off at that screen.

  120. LOADING PHOTO CD FILES INTO THE PHOTOS FOLDER:
  121. For best results, copy only the numbered PCD
  122. files (such as 00001.PCD) into the PHOTOS folder.
  123. Browse through the Photo CD to find the numbered
  124. image files with the .PCD file extension (commonly
  125. in a folder called "IMAGES").  Check the small previews
  126. of your photos on the Photo CD cover for how the photo
  127. files were numbered. Photo files are often very large
  128. so you should copy only those files that you want to
  129. use in the software to the PHOTOS folder in the
  130. FASHION MAGIC(TM) folder.  It's always a good
  131. idea to rename the files with a name that will be easier
  132. to identify.

  134. USING SCANNERS AND DIGITAL CAMERAS ON THE PC:
  135. If nothing happens after you've selected your device, try
  136. using the Alt-Tab keys to bring your scanner software to
  137. the foreground.
  138.  
  139. If your scanner or camera is not TWAIN compatible or you
  140. are having trouble getting your files into the design 
  141. directly from the scanner or camera, you can still import
  142. your photos into the software. Simply use your scanner or 
  143. camera software to create the files, then save the files 
  144. as JPEG, PICT, or TIFFs. Copy these files into the 
  145. PHOTO or ARTSTUFF folder in the Fashion Magic(TM) folder. 
  146. Now you can import the images into the Fashion Magic(TM) 
  147. TankTop CD-ROM Kit software by clicking on the Camera on 
  148. the left side of the screen, then clicking on the Computer 
  149. Tab above the scroll box to see the folders and files on 
  150. your hard drive.

  152. MY DESIGN TAKES A LONG TIME TO PRINT:
  153. You may experience very slow printing when your
  154. monitor depth is set to 256-colors.  If available,change
  155. your monitor settings to a higher color depth to speed 
  156. the printing.  Also, designs that have a lot of graphics 
  157. or photos can also take longer to print.  To change your
  158. monitor color depth, click on the Start menu and choose
  159. Settings and then Control Panel.  Double click on Display.
  160. Choose settings and change the color palette to high 
  161. color (or true color).

  165. IF YOU ARE USING A MACINTOSH(R) COMPUTER:

  172. PROBLEMS INSTALLING OR RUNNING THE SOFTWARE:
  173. Some systems may be unable to auto install or run if
  174. File Sharing is "on". Go to the APPLE(R) menu and then 
  175. to CONTROL PANELS/FILE SHARING. Turn File Sharing "off".  
  176. Also be sure that total available RAM is greater 
  177. than 40 MB.

  179. MACINTOSH(R) COMPUTER MEMORY REQUIREMENTS:
  180. Fashion Magic(TM) TankTop CD-ROM Kit requires a 
  181. minimum of 24MB of available RAM on a Macintosh(R) 
  182. Computer.  If you have other programs running, close 
  183. them first.  If your system has less than the required 
  184. 24 MB, you'll need to turn on virtual memory. From the 
  185. Control Panel, open Memory, turn on virtual memory, 
  186. and set the memory to approximately 40 MBs (some 
  187. systems may need to be set higher). This should 
  188. allow enough memory to run the System software, 
  189. TankTop CD-ROM Kit, and a print monitor. 
  190.  
  191. If you have enough physical RAM available on your 
  192. system (over 32 MB), turn virtual memory off to 
  193. improve the performance of TankTop CD-ROM Kit software.

  195. THE BOX BEHIND THE TEXT IS PRINTING INCORRECTLY:
  196. You may see some "banding" in the box behind the text in
  197. your design due to a conflict with certain video drivers
  198. when the monitor is set to millions of colors. To fix the
  199. printing problem, change the monitor setting to THOUSANDS 
  200. OF COLORS (see below).

  202. CHANGING THE MONITOR COLOR DEPTH:
  203. To improve the performance of the software, you should
  204. set the monitor depth to THOUSANDS OF COLORS.  To do this,
  205. click on the Apple(R) Menu and choose the CONTROL PANEL 
  206. and select monitors.  Set the color depth to thousands of 
  207. colors.

  209. USING SCANNERS AND DIGITAL CAMERAS ON 
  210. A MACINTOSH(R) COMPUTER:
  211. Only scanners and digital cameras that are fully TWAIN
  212. compliant can be used directly within Fashion Magic(TM)
  213. TankTop CD-ROM Kit.  Many Macintosh(R) scanners use 
  214. PhotoShop(R) plug-ins which are not an open standard.  
  215.  
  216. If your scanner or camera is not TWAIN compatible or you
  217. are having trouble getting your files into the design 
  218. directly from the scanner or camera, you can still import
  219. your photos into the software. Simply use your scanner or 
  220. camera software to create the files, then save the files 
  221. as JPEG, PICT, or TIFFs. Copy these files into the 
  222. PHOTOS or ARTSTUFF folder in the Fashion Magic(TM) folder. 
  223. Now you can import the images into the Fashion Magic(TM) 
  224. TankTop CD-ROM Kit software by clicking on the Camera on
